Drumnadrochit is ideally placed for exploring the Highlands and the mysterious Loch Ness. It affords easy access to many of the most popular attractions in the area. The village itself has a number of good restaurants to suit all pockets and is home to the Loch Ness Monster Exhibitions. The impressive Divach Falls are close by too. There is even horse riding available just outside the village with facilities for the disabled. Interesting and picturesque places to visit are to be found all around the shores of Loch Ness.
Just two miles along the A82 you can explore the ruins of Urquhart Castle. At over 500 years old, the medieval fortress has been the scene of many battles and sieges, and is ranked alongside Edinburgh and Eileen Donan as one of the most photographed castles in Scotland. Urquhart dominates a rocky promontory on Loch Ness with splendid views up and down the loch.
Known as the capital of the Highlands, Inverness is just 15 miles from Drumnadrochit. Inverness is a thriving commercial city boasting many shops, restaurants, an ice rink, sports centre, theatre, cinemas, museum and art gallery. Dominated by Inverness Castle, a huge sandstone structure that overlooks the River Ness.
Glen Affric one of Scotland's most beautiful Glens is well worth a visit. Look out for the 'cheeky chaffinches' that eat out of you hand! A major tourist centre, Fort William is linked to Inverness via the Caledonian Canal and Neptune's Staircase, by a series of eight locks. Fort William has plenty of shops and places to eat. Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, overlooks the town. Standing at 4406ft it offers spectacular views. A chair lift is available.
Other places of interest to visit that are quite accessible by car are Fort Augustus, Nairn, The Black Isle (see dolphins at certain times of the year). Aviemore and the Isle of Skye to name but a few.
